Axonal Growth of Central Nervous System Neurons

چکیده
Methods for modulating the axonal outgrowth of central ner Vous system neurons are provided. Methods for stimulating the axonal outgrowth of central nervous system neurons fol lowing an injury (e.g., stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, cere bral aneurism, spinal cord injury and the like) and methods for inhibiting the axonal outgrowth of central nervous system neurons are also provided. Finally, a packed formulation comprising a pharmaceutical composition comprising an inosine nucleoside and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier packed with instructions for use of the pharmaceutical com position for treatment of a central nervous system disorder is provided.

Relationship between Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Multiple Sclerosis: A Review Study
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that inflammation, demyelination, oligodendrocyte loss, gliosis, axonal injury and neurodegeneration are the main histopathological hallmarks of the disease. Although MS was classically thought as a demyelinating disease, but axonal injury occurs commonly in acute inflammatory lesions. In MS mi...
متن کاملIntrinsic Axonal Growth and the Drive for Regeneration
Following damage to the adult nervous system in conditions like stroke, spinal cord injury, or traumatic brain injury, many neurons die and most of the remaining spared neurons fail to regenerate. Injured neurons fail to regrow both because of the inhibitory milieu in which they reside as well as a loss of the intrinsic growth capacity of the neurons. If we are to develop effective therapeutic ...
متن کاملBrain Repair by Endogenous Progenitors
Stem cells within the adult brain can be stimulated by injury and growth factor treatment to replace damaged neurons, even neurons that are not normally generated in adults. Coupled with recent insights into the mechanism by which Nogo inhibits axonal regeneration, this discovery may inspire new treatments for central nervous system injuries and neurodegenerative diseases.
متن کاملIn vivo imaging reveals a phase-specific role of STAT3 during central and peripheral nervous system axon regeneration.
In the peripheral nervous system (PNS), damaged axons regenerate successfully, whereas axons in the CNS fail to regrow. In neurons of the dorsal root ganglia (DRG), which extend branches to both the PNS and CNS, only a PNS lesion but not a CNS lesion induces axonal growth. How this differential growth response is regulated in vivo is only incompletely understood. Here, we combine in vivo time-l...
متن کاملA high mitochondrial transport rate characterizes CNS neurons with high axonal regeneration capacity
Improving axonal transport in the injured and diseased central nervous system has been proposed as a promising strategy to improve neuronal repair. However, the contribution of each cargo to the repair mechanism is unknown. DRG neurons globally increase axonal transport during regeneration. Because the transport of specific cargos after axonal insult has not been examined systematically in a mo...
